As part of the Intern2China Program, this engaging 2-hour session will guide you through the essentials of doing business in China, with a particular focus on foreign investment and human resources. Drawing from the Navigating China's Foreign Investment Landscape curriculum, this masterclass will combine practical insights, legal frameworks, and real-world examples to help you better understand how to set up and operate in China.


This Masterclass is free of charge for Intern2China participants and international students, seeking practical knowledge of China's business environment, especially those aiming to work in or with China-based enterprises.

Chapter 1: China's Foreign Investment Landscape

The masterclass begins with Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), explaining China's unique approach to investment management and its long-term implications. You will learn how to assess the feasibility of your investment plans, understand compliance requirements under the new Foreign Investment Law, and explore how investment promotion, protection, and restructuring work in practice:

Chapter 2: Employment & Labor Law

The second module focuses on Employment & Labor Law, equipping you with knowledge on individual, collective, and part-time contracts, and their practical application under the PRC Labor Contract Law. Special attention is given to work placement arrangements, legal restrictions, and the crucial role of the employment handbook in shaping transparent employer–employee relationships:

Chapter 3: Payroll, Social Security & Individual Income Tax

The third module provides an in-depth view of Payroll, Social Security & Individual Income Tax. You will develop a strong understanding of China's contribution system, and employer obligations. Key topics include tax residency, taxable income categories, available deductions, and annual reconciliation requirements:
